Lehman Alternative Community School (LACS) celebrated a vibrant and engaging Infusion Week, held March 2-6. Themed Roots & Wings, the annual event brought students, staff, and community members together in a dynamic exploration of Latinx culture.

Throughout the week, students participated in infused classroom lessons, hands-on workshops, and school-wide assemblies designed to deepen cultural understanding and appreciation. Highlights included an ASM (all-school meeting) panel featuring local community leaders, as well as a lively closing assembly with an eight-piece band and student participation in salsa and bachata dancing.

This year’s Infusion Week was made possible through the dedication, from September through March, of LACS student leaders, including Victor Cruz, Emily Isaacs, Azalea Sears, and Hazel Brotman (Class of 2026), Maxx Charlebois (Class of 2027), and Noah Miller (Class of 2028), alongside faculty advisors Nora Schapira and Bronwen Exter. Their leadership and commitment helped create a meaningful and memorable experience for all, and some will be the first LACS graduates to earn the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness.

Infusion Week is a reflection of LACS’ core values: student voice, experiential learning, and a strong sense of community. By centering cultural exploration and elevating student leadership, the week exemplifies the school’s commitment to fostering curiosity, inclusivity, and real-world connections that extend beyond the classroom.
