Student-athletes from the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) are continuing their seasons in sectional and state-level postseason competition across multiple sports. Their efforts reflect strong preparation, teamwork, and commitment as they represent their community.
Wrestling
The Ithaca High School (IHS) wrestling team concluded its season at the New York State Championships, held Feb. 26-28, represented by senior Quentin Getzin and junior Rayna Coller. Coller made program history as IHS's first-ever girls Section IV champion. Getzin, also a Section IV champion this season, advanced to the state podium with a fourth-place finish.
The team also earned the Section IV West Sportsmanship Award.
Swimming
The IHS boys swimming and diving team qualified senior Koen Anderson for the New York State Swimming Championships.
The state championships will take place on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, at Ithaca College.
Indoor Track and Field
The IHS indoor track and field team advanced eight student-athletes to postseason competition: sophomore Avery Whittaker; juniors Tsadia Bercuvitz, Maren Golden, Skyler Lovenheim, and Ruby Betts; and seniors Eliza DeRito, Zoli Nadasdy, and Hayden Cornell.
The Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
Boys Basketball
In the Section IV Class AAA semifinal on March 1, the IHS boys basketball team defeated Elmira, 77–62, to advance to the championship game.
Ithaca will face Corning in the Section IV Class AAA Championship on Friday, March 6, at Watkins Glen. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
Boys Hockey
In the Section IV final on March 1, the IHS boys hockey team defeated Broome County, 6–0, to capture the sectional championship.
Ithaca will host the Section IV runner-up, either Hilton or Pittsford, in a regional game on Saturday, March 7, at 2:30 p.m. at The Rink. Hilton and Pittsford face off March 2 to determine the opponent.
The ICSD recognizes the dedication of its student-athletes, coaches, and families throughout the season and postseason.
