Three Ithaca High School (IHS) students have successfully completed the 2025 New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) program, held July 6 - August 2 at SUNY Fredonia.
Susanne Guimbretiere (Grade 10), Ada Iyer (Grade 11), and Allison Karasin (Grade 10) each dedicated four weeks to intensive study in two areas such as drawing and painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, sequential art, or installation. They spent between 100 and 125 hours honing their skills—five hours a day, five days a week—while also working with visiting artists and taking part in a field trip to the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.
The New York State Education Department recognizes participation in this program as the equivalent of a full unit of high school art credit, which can count toward a Regents diploma or an elective.
Students interested in next year’s program can find 2026 application details, audition locations, and program information later this fall on the NYSSSA website.
Congratulations, Susanne, Ada, and Allison, on this accomplishment.
