The Ithaca City School District Athletics Department proudly welcomes Rahmel Mack as the new varsity boys basketball coach and Tim Wood as the new varsity girls basketball coach.
Coach Rahmel Mack - Varsity Boys Basketball
Coach Mack has long been a dedicated leader in the Ithaca basketball community. As the founder of the Prince Jakim & Dominique Summer Basketball Camp, now in its 12th year, he has helped hundreds of students from 3rd through 6th grade learn the fundamentals of the game. He also established the GIAC Firebirds girls program and the Immortal Wolfpack travel program, expanding opportunities for young athletes to grow on and off the court.
Most recently, Coach Mack served as Ithaca’s JV coach for two seasons, where he built strong relationships with student-athletes and led them to success through hard work and motivation. As he takes on the role of varsity head coach, his focus remains the same: to help players find joy in competing, pride in representing their school, and a love for the game.
Coach Tim Wood - Varsity Girls Basketball
A 2001 Ithaca High School graduate and proud basketball alum, Coach Wood is returning to his alma mater to lead the varsity girls team. He began building his coaching experience as an assistant coach for the boys varsity basketball team during the 2021-22 season, and more recently, by working with high school and college athletes on player development and performance under pressure.
Coach Wood’s approach emphasizes strong fundamentals, a positive team culture, and the connection between mental wellness and athletic performance. This season, he will focus on building a solid foundation for the program and fostering growth, both on and off the court.
Outside of coaching, Wood holds degrees from Cornell University (BS) and UNC Chapel Hill (MSW), is a social worker for the New York State Office of Family and Children Services, and enjoys life in Ithaca with his wife and three daughters.
