Reopen ICSD

Overview

The Ithaca City School District’s vision of 6000+ Thinkers and mission to Engage, Educate, Empower continue whether we are in physical or virtual spaces together. The COVID-19 pandemic pushes our community around this common, powerful, vision and mission.

As we prepare for reopening in the fall, we will focus not only on ensuring the health and safety of our community but on changing our system to be actively antiracist and capable of liberating all of our learners. This is an opportunity for us to reimagine how we “do school” and we will seize the opportunity.

We are planning for five possible reopening scenarios and organizing our planning within four main pillars: culture, physical and environmental health and safety, social-emotional and academic learning, and communication.

Reopening Scenarios
1. Full Distance Learning
2. Staggered Return
3. Partial Return
4. Blended, Choice-Based Return
5. Full In-Person Learning

Planning Information Sessions

In June, Superintendent Luvelle Brown, Deputy Superintendent Lily Talcott, and Coordinator of Health Services and Wellness Kari Burke hosted a series of initial planning information sessions for staff, families, and students to discuss the work of safely reopening our schools. Below is a recording of one of the family sessions.
