Reopen ICSD

The Ithaca City School District’s vision of 6000+ Thinkers and mission to Engage, Educate, Empower continue whether we are in physical or virtual spaces together. The COVID-19 pandemic pushes our community around this common, powerful, vision and mission.

As we prepare for reopening in the fall, we will focus not only on ensuring the health and safety of our community but on changing our system to be actively antiracist and capable of liberating all of our learners. This is an opportunity for us to reimagine how we “do school” and we will seize the opportunity.

Our ICSD Reopening Plan can be found here: ICSD Reopening Plan (updated July 31, 2020)

On July 13, Governor Cuomo and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) indicated that, if the data supports doing so, schools must open safely for as much in-person instruction as possible, while also offering remote options for those who need/want it. Per the governor’s guidance, the ICSD must reopen our buildings for in-person teaching and learning if:

  • our region (the Southern Tier Region) is in Phase IV of reopening; and
  • our region’s daily infection rate is below 5% over a 14-day average.

Plan Overview

At this time, ICSD schools will follow state guidance to reopen and safely welcome back as many students as possible, while also providing a distance learning and teaching option for those who need it. Families and teachers will choose between two options to begin the school year:

  • Option 1: In-Person Teaching and Learning
In-person teaching and learning 5 days per week for students and staff
  • Option 2: Distance Teaching and Learning
Distance learning 5 days per week for students and teachers

Fall Sports Update
On July 16, the NYSPHSAA announced that the fall sports start date is delayed until Monday, September 21. Additionally, all fall regional and state championships have been canceled. If the fall sports seasons are interrupted or impacted by COVID-19, a condensed seasons plan may be implemented. Click here to learn more.
