LACS Engages in Annual Infusion Week

Last month, Lehman Alternative Community School (LACS) held its annual Infusion Week, five days of student-planned school gatherings, workshops, panels, and classes focused on what it means to be part of a democratic, alternative community school.

The idea for Infusion Week was born around 20 years ago by the then-senior class. It has since grown from a one-day event to a weeklong opportunity for the school to learn as a collective about a particular social justice topic, such as the climate crisis, student activism, or the prison system.

This year’s theme - “the A in LACS” - was proposed by the Public Education and Democracy class last year. The week’s events - many of which were student-led - were infused with LACS’ history, philosophy, goals, and beliefs, as well as the 13 Guiding Principles of Black Lives Matter at School. A professional scribe also attended the events and will commemorate the school and week with a special piece of art.
