US Rep Josh Riley tours IHS Community Market with Rachel McDonald

On May 28, U.S. Representative Josh Riley visited the ICSD to examine local efforts to combat food insecurity, in a tour organized by the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

The visit included stops at Boynton Middle School, where Riley toured the kitchens with Director of Child Nutrition Beth Krause and ICSD Executive Chef Jamie Zervos, and Ithaca High School's Community Market. The IHS market was stocked with orders from Caroline Elementary School families, which are delivered by volunteer drivers every Wednesday.

The tour highlighted ongoing collaboration between local schools, community organizations, and federal representatives to address food access challenges in the Southern Tier region.

"Every student deserves to go through the school day without worrying about where their next meal will come from," Riley said in an Instagram post. "It was great to visit Ithaca’s school nutrition team and the IHS Community Market to see firsthand how they’re tackling food insecurity, from free school meals to take-home groceries."
