The Ithaca City School District Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2025–26 District-Wide School Safety Plan on January 6 at 4:30 p.m. in the Board Room at 400 Lake Street. Community members are invited to review the draft plan in advance.
The safety plan reflects the district’s commitment to a Culture of Love and outlines a framework that guides all schools, with each building maintaining its own detailed plan.
This year’s updates to the safety plan are required by recent amendments to state regulations and include:
Trauma-informed safety drills with advance parent notification and clear identification of drills
Updated building-level emergency response plans (ERPs)
Statewide standardized emergency terms and annual training
Expanded safety planning for after-school and community events
New procedures for extreme heat conditions
