Greetings Enfield Community,
It is with great joy and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of Enfield Elementary! I’m thrilled to be returning to my roots in elementary education, my true professional passion, after spending last year as an administrator at the middle school level. Before that, I spent much of my career teaching 4th and 5th grade here in the Ithaca City School District, and I can’t wait to bring that same love for learning, curiosity, and connection to this new role.
Enfield Elementary is a joyful and vibrant learning community, surrounded by fields, orchards, and outdoor spaces that invite wonder and exploration. Thanks to the size of our school and our close-knit school community, we have the opportunity to truly know and support each student as an individual. Our educators work closely together to create relevant, engaging learning experiences that honor students’ strengths, nurture their interests, and help them grow into confident, curious learners.
As an educator and leader, I believe deeply in designing curriculum and school experiences that are relevant, place-based, and meaningful to the lives of our students. I look forward to learning from the amazing work already happening here, especially the integration of equity, sustainability, and community partnerships that define Enfield’s identity as an edible, equitable, farm school.
Outside of school, you can find me hiking with my family, shopping at the Ithaca Farmers Market, or enjoying one of our many local festivals. My wife and I are proud parents of two school-age children in ICSD. Like you, we know how much it matters to have a school community that sees, values, and supports every child.
I’m excited to get to know each of you and to work together in support of your child’s growth. Please don’t hesitate to stop by, reach out, or simply say hello. I’ll be sending out an invitation to a playground night so that I can begin meeting students and families. You can expect to see me out and about at arrival, dismissal, in classrooms, and probably at the popsicle stand during PTA events because being part of this community matters deeply to me.
To our amazing students: I can’t wait to meet you! I’ll be there with a smile (and probably a lot of high-fives) as you hop off the bus each morning. Whether you love to read, build, draw, explore, or tell great jokes I want to hear about it all.
Sincerely,
Stephen Anderson
