Over the past eight years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of serving as the Director of Athletics and Wellness for our district. During this time, I’ve worked alongside an inspiring group of scholar-athletes and dedicated coaches who have helped elevate our programs in meaningful and lasting ways. From launching initiatives like unified soccer, bowling, basketball, and flag football, and the Scholar Athlete Council, to building a culture of excellence, accountability, and joy, this has been a deeply rewarding journey.
Thanks to the unwavering support of our Board of Education and the broader community, we’ve made significant enhancements to our athletic facilities. Upgraded scoreboards at the stadium and in our gymnasiums, refinished gym floors, new digital signage, and expanded branding all stand as lasting reminders of how much our community values athletics as a vital piece of the educational experience. These investments send a powerful message: our scholars’ passions, talents, and growth matter—in every arena.
It has truly been an honor to serve the district in this role. Now, I’m excited to return to where my journey as an educator began—Beverly J. Martin Elementary School—where I’ll serve as principal. Stepping into this new chapter fills me with deep gratitude and humility.
I’m also thrilled to share that Kari Burke will be our next Director of Athletics and Wellness, and Shane Taylor will be joining as Assistant Director. Together they bring deep experience, strong vision, and an unwavering commitment to student wellness and success.
You can read their welcome letters and learn more about their backgrounds and hopes for the future of ICSD Athletics and Wellness on our website: ithacacityschools.org/athletics.
To the scholar-athletes, coaches, families, and supporters: thank you for the memories, the teamwork, and your enduring dedication to excellence. I’ll always be cheering you on, from the sidelines, the pool deck, the golf course, the tennis courts, and every field in between.
With heartfelt appreciation.
Blessings,
Samantha Little
