PBIS: Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports. This school-wide initiative is a positive discipline plan that focuses on a proactive approach to preventing/reducing challenging behaviors and producing positive outcomes. PBIS creates positive environments by utilizing proactive strategies such as introducing, defining, modeling, teaching, and supporting positive behavioral expectations. After this, PBIS reinforces and rewards students for these positive social behaviors.

Native American Storyteller Perry Ground:
Native American storyteller Perry Ground visited all eight ICSD elementary schools in October, thanks to a Connecting Classrooms grant from the Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI).
Ground, an author and speaker, is a Turtle Clan member of the Onondaga Nation of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy. He has been a storyteller and educator for over 25 years and enjoys working with students of all ages to teach about the history and culture of Native Americans.
Anti-Marginalization Design Team:
A newly formed anti-marginalization design team is examining how the ICSD’s curriculum can support students in developing anti-racist understandings and practices.
