Seven Ithaca Wrestlers Place at Sectionals, Team Wins Sportsmanship Award

Update: Congratulations to George Oroudjov, who was runner-up in the 138-pound weight class at states!

Ithaca had seven athletes place at the 76th Section IV Wrestling Championships on February 12, including two champions and one runner-up.

Sophomore Daniel Parker, son of head wrestling coach Eric Parker, won his second sectional title, this time in the 145-pound weight class. In 2020, Parker won the 126-pound championship as an eighth-grader and was also named Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Senior George Oroudjov, who was runner-up in the 2020 state championships, won the 138-pound weight class.

Quentin Getzin, an eighth-grader at DeWitt Middle School, was runner-up in the 102-pound weight class.

Parker, Oroudjov, and Getzin will represent Ithaca in the New York State Championships in Albany on February 25 and 26.

The four other Ithaca athletes who placed at sectionals include sophomore Nicholas Talbot (fourth place, 160-pounds), sophomore Kaleb Chilson (fifth place, 110-pounds), freshman Aires Galbraith (fifth place, 118-pounds), and junior Ariel Schwartz (sixth place, 132-pounds).

In addition to these individual achievements, the Ithaca wrestling team also took home the 2022 Sportsmanship Award.
