ICSD Community Letter - Updated COVID-19 Guidance and Protocols

January 14, 2022

Hello Ithaca City School District Community,

I am writing to share an update with you regarding updated health guidance and protocols in response to COVID-19. Aligned with New York State Department of Health guidance, the Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) has suspended contact tracing operations.

We will be following the lead of the TCHD and will no longer be calling or emailing families and staff when positive cases of COVID-19 arise. We will continue to update the New York State COVID-19 Dashboard daily, as required for all confirmed laboratory (PCR) tests, but will no longer be providing an additional weekly case count report.

The new guidance emphasizes other layers of protection in our schools that are effective, including mask-wearing. The ICSD has ordered N-95, KN-95, and KF-94 (pediatric) masks, which are currently in transit and will be available soon.

Each day, members of our community should check themselves for symptoms and stay home if they are sick. When in our schools, buses, and other spaces, we must continue to strengthen a collaborative culture of good mask-wearing and physical distancing.

We remain committed to both health and safety and teaching and learning. The efforts of our school nurses, teachers, administrators, and staff who have supported the TCHD’s contact tracing efforts to date have been extraordinary. Please know that as a school community, we will continue to implement mitigation measures, while also working diligently to create joyful, meaningful learning experiences for our students. Thanks for your ongoing engagement and flexibility.

Sincerely,

Luvelle Brown
