ICSD Community Letter - Future COVID-19 Communications

December 13, 2021

Dear Ithaca School District Community,

Please know how much we appreciate your ongoing support and navigation of the health pandemic in our community. Our partnership has contributed much to buildings staying open for excellent teaching and learning. Adherence to health and safety protocols, testing programs, and increasing vaccination rates contribute to our ability to continue quality in-person learning experiences.

I also wish to inform you of updates to our COVID-19 reporting. In our ongoing effort to be responsive to the needs of our school community, we are streamlining our communications related to COVID-19 effective Monday, December 13th. Rather than issuing an email and phone call with every confirmed student or staff case, we will provide a link to the New York State COVID-19 School Report Card in the symptom screening reminder shared every Monday morning with caregivers. Our website will also be updated weekly with information regarding new cases. We hope streamlining our notices about cases will support timely responses from caregivers of students potentially exposed to a person positive for COVID-19.

You will continue to receive notice by email and phone if your child is identified as close contact with an individual confirmed to have COVID-19. Additionally, school district staff will continue to receive notices when there is a confirmed case within their building.

We report COVID-19 cases for students, teachers, and staff to the New York State Department of Health every day school is in session. In addition to the reported positives by school site, the NYS COVID-19 School Report Card also includes a breakdown of testing and results for students and staff.

With many of our elementary-aged children receiving COVID-19 vaccines in recent weeks, a greater number of our students will be able to remain in school. This is heartening news for us as educators as it is a privilege to have your children teaching and learning in our buildings.

Sincerely,

Luvelle Brown
Superintendent
