ICSD Community Letter - November 29, 2021

Dear Ithaca School District Community,

I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed a restorative holiday and weekend. We continue to be grateful for the opportunity to serve your family.  As we reflect on the past few weeks and plan for the future, we wish to share some important information regarding COVID-19 testing in our school district.

Partner Organization Pauses School-Based COVID-19 Testing
Clinical Enterprise, the agency providing screening testing to our district, advised all participating sites they are moving to a new portal. As a result, screening testing has been temporarily suspended. We will keep you informed as Clinical Enterprise provides updates.

Our school-based screening testing program has collected over 2,300 samples for diagnostic testing during the last 5 weeks and identified asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 with a test positivity rate of 0.3%. Even with the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, prevalence in our school community remains lower than that of Tompkins County.

Symptomatic Testing with Cayuga Health System
Through a partnership with Cayuga Health System, the ICSD continues to offer symptomatic testing for students. Swabbing occurs before the student leaves school, with diagnostic results available to caregivers and the school nurse. Over 330 samples have been collected for testing since late September.

As we navigate new concerns and the continued challenges presented by the current health pandemic, I appreciate your patience and feedback. Thanks for sharing your children with us.

Sincerely,

Luvelle Brown
Superintendent
