Positive Student Case of COVID-19 at South Hill Elementary SchoolOctober 18, 2021
Dear South Hill Elementary School Community,
The Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) has confirmed 1 positive student case of COVID-19 at South Hill Elementary School. This message is being sent to all South Hill staff, and all families who have a student attending South Hill.
We have communicated closely with the TCHD regarding this case, and the previous cases. Some of these cases are likely connected. The TCHD has assured us that these recent cases amongst the South Hill community are due to household exposures, extracurricular exposures, and attending school while symptomatic. The potentially affected students have been notified, or are already home in quarantine. Staff members who may be affected have been notified and are following health and safety protocols.
I am acutely aware of how unnerving and challenging it is for you to receive a series of notifications about positive cases of COVID-19. While the South Hill community has been doing a stellar job adhering to protocols, it is important for us to remain vigilant with regards to protecting one another.
As a very important reminder, if you’re a staff member at South Hill, or have a child who attends South Hill, you must monitor closely for the following symptoms each day, and stay home if any one of these are present, even mild:
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Muscle or body aches
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
