ICSD Community Letter Re: COVID-19 Screening TestingOctober 14, 2021
Dear ICSD Community,
We are looking forward to beginning COVID-19 screening testing. Our school district is partnering with a federally contracted organization, Affinity Empowering, to offer school-based testing each week. Although we are currently awaiting supplies, we anticipate starting some schools next week, the week of October 18, 2021. Soon, we hope to have a predictable testing schedule for each of our 12 school buildings.
To participate in screening testing, caregivers must register their children with Affinity Empowering. Staff also must register with Affinity Empowering. Students who are over the age of 18 can register themselves.
The testing program will be supported by a team of retired nurses, administrators, and others who will travel to each school. Sample collections are done with what is called a lower anterior nasal swab. The swab is similar to a Q-tip and it is placed just into the lower part of the nose and swirled around 3 times to collect the sample. The test we will use is much more comfortable than other collection methods that involve placing the swap deep into the nose. Families and staff will access results directly through the Assure platform, provided by Affinity Empowering upon registration. We will continue to notify school communities if and when there is a positive case within the school, and will provide specific notifications if an individual may be considered a close contact.
