Two IHS Lacrosse Players Earn All-AmericanIthaca High School girls lacrosse players Alecia Nicholas and Shea Baker have been named USA Lacrosse High School All-Americans.
Team goalie Nicholas finished the 2021 season with an 11-2 record, giving up only 59 goals total, for a per-game average of 4.5. A 2021 IHS graduate, Nicholas will attend and play lacrosse at the University of North Carolina next year.
“It has been a pleasure to watch Alecia grow as a scholar-athlete on and off the field these past four years,” Ithaca City School District Director of Athletics and Wellness Samantha Little said. “Alecia is a natural leader with tremendous love and passion for her teammates and the game of lacrosse.”
“Alecia has an incredible work ethic and strives to be the best that she can be on and off the field,” BJ Bliss, head coach of the varsity girls lacrosse team, said. “We look forward to seeing all that she will continue to accomplish in her career at the University of North Carolina.”
Baker, a rising senior at IHS, led the team in points this year with 60 goals and 19 assists. She also finished the season with 34 ground balls and 62 draw controls. Described as one of the hardest workers on the team by Bliss, Baker will attend Boston College after her senior year.
“Shea is the quintessential scholar-athlete, and we are extremely proud of her accomplishments thus far,” Little said. “We look forward to Shea’s continued leadership given her strong sense of self, competitive nature, and extreme work ethic.”
USA Lacrosse defines All-Americans as players who exhibit superior skills and techniques, possess exceptional game sense and knowledge, and demonstrate excellent sportsmanship. During his four years as head coach of the girls lacrosse team, Bliss has had three players earn this top honor.
