Confirmed COVID-19 Case at Caroline Elementary

January 12, 2021

Dear Caroline Elementary School Community,

The Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) has confirmed that the individual who tested positive through antigen testing yesterday is indeed positive through COVID-19 PCR testing. As mentioned yesterday, all affected individuals are in their respective homes, engaged in distance teaching and learning, and will continue to do so through their quarantine and isolation periods. The remainder of the school can continue in-person instruction.

I wish to express my utmost appreciation for the  Caroline school community and your careful and compassionate implementation of our surveillance testing program.

Sincerely,

Luvelle Brown
Superintendent

Positive Antigen Case at Caroline Elementary, Class in Quarantine

January 11, 2021

Dear Caroline Elementary School Community,

This morning, one of our Caroline community members tested positive through our COVID-19 antigen testing program. All students and staff who were in close contact with the positive individual are already home, and will soon engage in distance learning and teaching. The antigen test will require PCR testing to confirm. If the PCR test is positive, we will notify all affected students and staff, and the Caroline community. If the PCR test is negative, those close contacts will return to school.

The excellent work of the Caroline school community and the implementation of a surveillance testing program proved to be crucial today. The early detection of a potentially positive COVID-19 case is allowing for efficient protocols and reducing exposures. The tireless efforts to support the health and safety of the community is appreciated.

For more information about contact tracing and the ICSD’s role in supporting those efforts, please visit our website.

Sincerely,

Luvelle Brown
Superintendent
