NYSSMA Selects Original Composition by Ithaca's Rubenstein-Miller for Inclusion in Honors Concert
The New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) has selected Ithaca freshman Ezri Rubenstein-Miller's original composition, Waltz D in minor for mixed chamber ensemble, for inclusion in the 22nd Annual Young Composer & Songwriter Honors Concert. Rubenstein-Miller is one of just 11 students in the state to achieve this honor.Every year, students submit their original music to NYSSMA and a panel of composition professors and educators adjudicate the submissions and select a number of works for performance in the Young Composer & Songwriter Honors Concert. The concert, which usually takes place at the annual NYSSMA Winter Conference, will be done virtually this year during NYSSMA's Cyber Summit on December 3-5, with pre-recorded performances of the winning works.
Rubenstein-Miller wrote her composition last year, as an eighth-grader at Boynton Middle School. The compositions of two other Boynton Young Composers, Aliza Proulx (The Sunrise) and Charlie Shanton (The Heist), were also selected as achieving the distinction of Honorable Mention.
