ICSD Makes New CSforALL Commitments

The Ithaca City School District is among 171 organizations to make new commitments to advance computer science (CS) education access and opportunity for youth across the country.

The commitments were recently announced in a press release by CSforALL, a non-profit organization dedicated to making high-quality computer science an integral part of students’ educational experience. All of the commitments are new, specific, and measurable actions that create CS opportunities for youth through innovative delivery models; build the capacity of local education organizations to offer CS to all students; increase the rigor and equity of CS education; and/or grow the CSforALL movement.

For the second year in a row, the ICSD has made new CSforALL commitments, with the goal of ensuring every student in the district creatively and critically engages in computational and systems thinking, and is empowered to develop computer science skills needed to engage as learners, users, and creators of knowledge.

Specifically, the ICSD has committed this year to—
  • building higher education and community partnerships to provide mentorship opportunities for underrepresented students to support the exploration of CS pathways, and to increase enrollment in secondary CS courses;
  • ensuring all middle school students engage in a CS-focused digital literacy/citizenship course; and
  • developing and implementing a blueprint to support a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative K-12 computing culture, impacting all of our students by summer 2020.
