US Lacrosse All-AmericanJulianna Saggese, a 2019 Ithaca High School graduate, has been named a US Lacrosse High School All-American.
US Lacrosse defines All-Americans as players who exhibit superior skills and techniques, possess exceptional game sense and knowledge, and demonstrate excellent sportsmanship. According to BJ Bliss, the IHS girls varsity lacrosse coach, Saggese embodies all of these traits, in addition to being a natural leader who makes everyone around her better.
“A three-year captain, Julianna embraced all players and worked hard to get the best out of each of them,” said Bliss. “This award is a true testament to not only her game, but her character and the hard work that she has put in over the years. She was one of the first to be at practice and the last to leave, and even after that always found time to work with the youth as well.”
Saggese finished the 2019 lacrosse season with 48 goals, 25 assists, 19 ground balls, and eight draw controls. In addition to being named a All-American, Saggese also made the All-Section IV first team for the second straight year.
Next fall, Saggese will join teammate Maria Vieira at the University of Albany on a lacrosse scholarship.
“Julianna is headed to an outstanding program at Albany and I see her having great success,” said Bliss. “On behalf of our entire team and coaching staff, I
congratulate Julianna on this amazing honor!”
