Project Title: World Population and a Sustainable Earth

Class(s): Precalculus (in collaboration with the Beacon Schools in Pakistan)

Grade(s): 10 and 11

Subject(s): Applied Math

Project: Students collect data on world population growth over the last couple centuries.  They then develop mathematical models for this data (exponential and logistic).  Next, students research the carrying capacity of the earth from several sources and develop a group estimate.  They use their models to predict when we will reach Earth’s carrying capacity.  Finally students research problems associated with overpopulation and present possible solutions.
