Boynton Needs Your Help!

Wednesday, June 1, 2016

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends of Boynton Middle School:

We need your help! As you have noticed the landscaping around the front of our school has not looked good for quite some time. We are in the midst of creating a 150’ long bed of native plants, trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses and flowering perennials to fill the border across and around A wing. The design is based on the Bioswale Garden at Cornell Plantations and includes deer resistant plants that attract birds, pollinators, and beneficial insects, as well as provide multi-season interest. This garden will become a multi-season outdoor classroom for many different curriculums within the school.

Several weeks ago, over 100 students were involved in preparing the soil- hand digging the entire bed, spreading and digging in 2 dump truck loads of compost (donated by Cornell Compost) and spreading 4 dump truck loads of wood chips donated by the City of Ithaca. Last week, they planted 15 trees and shrubs.

We will be ordering well over 200 more plants for this bed and that’s where you can help. We are working directly with, a local Ithaca nursery representing some of the best local and regional growers. They have given us a significant discount and are shipping and delivering the plants directly to Boynton Middle School for free!

Please log on to and consider buying plants for this special project which enhances the grounds and atmosphere of our school. Ordering will close on Monday, June 6, and plants will be delivered in time for planting on Monday, June 13, and Tuesday, June 14.

Thanks for your support. Feel free to join us on the 13th and 14th as we transform our school.
