The Fifth-Grade Citizen Science Action Project Video
In the Fall of 2015, close to 200 fifth-graders from four elementary schools across ICSD took part in a new type of learning experience. The video tells the story of their interdisciplinary work, as practicing scientists, to understand issues facing our local ecosystems. They were supported by an IPEI Connecting Classrooms Grant, and teaching partners such as the Cayuga Lake Floating Classroom - along with local experts from Cornell University, and New York State Parks. The Ithaca City School District is supporting the development of interdisciplinary learning experiences that are inquiry-based, involve research and collaboration with local experts, and are deeply connected to rigorous new standards, such as the Next Generation Science Standards.
