Orchestra News April 2016

  Happy April!

Our South Hill Instrumental Music students are continuing to improve their instrument playing skills.

Beginners are improving their note reading skills and are continuing to learn how to play new notes on their instruments. They are focusing on proper playing position and ways to improve their tone quality (sound). Advanced students are growing in their musicianship as well, and they are preparing interesting large group ensemble music that they will perform in our Spring Concert Wednesday, May 18. Please mark your calendars - we can't wait to show you what your students have been learning!

In addition to their regular lesson assignments, several advanced students are also preparing scales and a solo for the upcoming NYSSMA - New York State School Music Association - Festival in May.

If your child would like more practice with reading music, there are several fun music apps that can strengthen your child's note reading skills. A few classes have had the chance to experiment with some of these apps on iPads during the last few minutes of their lessons. Please send an email to Ms. Jordan or Mrs. Kaiser for note naming (and other related instrumental music) app recommendations.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our Spring Concert on
May 18!
