The Great Escape at South Hill Elementary School !!! Flips, rolls, spins, and balances all meant one thing at the South Hill gym. Gymnastics had arrived. Our students worked hard at different stations that included the vault, parallel bars, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise, climbing walls, nets, ropes, and rings. Each grade was shown specific moves / routines, which allowed them to be comfortable while also challenging themselves as they saw fit. Many stations worked on the student’s upper body strength, as well as endurance. The students worked hard to get ready for this year’s version of the Great Escape. We transformed the equipment and the gym into a monster obstacle course, featuring the solar system, the elephant, a space ship, a hot lava field, and the Grand Canyon - among others. In addition to the Great Escape week at school, we also held our annual Great Escape Night on February 10. Over 150 students and their families conquered the darkened, disco light-filled gym while showing off their skills. A very generous thank you to the SH PTA and all the families who made the night a GREAT success!
