Art students work on self-portraits.

In grades kindergarten through 3, skills students are learning include eye-line, nose-line, mouth-line, hair, ear, and mouth shapes. Then, they put their heads on monkey bodies honoring the year of the red fire monkey (Chinese New year, Feb 8th).

In grades 4 through 5, skills students are learning include how to draw their face using the grid method, breaking down their “selfie” photos into small squares  and drawing each square to make the whole.

Next, we will celebrate and create art inspired by: African American Artist Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden.
