Physical Education News February 2016

Flips, rolls, spins, and balances all mean one thing at the South Hill gym - gymnastics is here.

The students have been working hard at different stations that include the vault, parallel bars, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise, and rings.  Each grade is shown specific moves and routines that allow them to be comfortable while challenging themselves as they see fit. Many things work on upper body strength, as well as endurance.

The students have been working very hard to get ready for this year’s version of the Great Escape. We transform the equipment and the gym into a monster obstacle course, which features the solar system, the elephant, and the Grand Canyon.

Again this year, we are hopeful that everyone will be able to join us for a night of fun at the Great Escape fundraising night. The fun-filled night is scheduled for Wednesday, February 10, 2016. If you didn’t sign up ahead of time for a time slot, no worries - there should be spots available when you arrive that evening.

The time slots are as follows:  4:00 – 4:30, 4:45 – 5:15, 5:30 – 6:00, and 6:15 – 6:45. From 7:00 – 7:30 we are opening the gym up to all South Hill Alumni. Please spread the word about this for us. Admittance is free. Still, any donation will support school-wide physical education programs. Pizza, 50 - 50 raffle tickets, etc. will be available in the cafeteria.

We look forward to seeing everyone February 10!
