The garden is beginning its seventh year. During seventh-grade science classes last fall, 80 students planned and planted 46 plots. This summer, students came in to keep the garden going. Every day they weeded, harvested, planted, made trellises, and ate.
The DeWitt Vegetable garden (Super duper awesome skillage vegetable garden of doom and broccoli) was built with grants from Lowe’s and the Ithaca Public Education Initiative, and endless volunteer labor. The garden serves seventh-grade science students who grow food for the school cafeteria while learning life science concepts and general science skills.
