NYSED Commissioner MaryEllen Elia visited Northeast Elementary October 23, 2015. After a tour and talking to students and staff, Dr. Elia noted feeling excited and comfortable about using Ithaca City School District as an example for other districts.
Visiting Northeast Elementary was part of Dr. Elia's time spent in the Ithaca region at schools and meeting with education stakeholders. Northeast Elementary is recognized as a New York State Reward School for its consistent excellence in student achievement. In addition to touring Northeast Elementary School, the Commissioner met with district superintendents, Board of Education members, and designated administrators, teachers and parents to discuss different topics related to education.
Among reasons the Commissioner toured Northeast Elementary are celebrations of significant district-wide student achievements, including increased graduation rates, attendance, co-curricular enrollment, and students reading at/above grade.
