ICSD Adding Text Messaging Capability to SchoolMessenger
The Ithaca City School District is adding text messaging capability to SchoolMessenger Communicate, the system it currently uses to call and email families. The new service will allow schools to send parents and guardians important informational text messages about events, school closings, safety alerts, and more, directly to their mobile devices.
Any ICSD parent or guardian who wishes to participate in this service need only to: (i) verify that their wireless phone number is on file and listed as the first number in SchoolTool, the district’s student information system; and (ii) opt in at any time from their wireless device by texting “Y” or “Yes” to the district’s short code number, 67587. Those who need to add, change, or rerank their wireless numbers can do so by submitting an update request directly in the SchoolTool Parent Portal (view instructions below), or by contacting their child’s school.
All parents and guardians who have wireless phone numbers on file and have not proactively opted in by February 6 will receive opt-in invitation text messages from Communicate on that day. The invitation will request that recipients confirm their willingness to receive text messages from the ICSD by replying “Y”. Those who neither proactively opt in, nor reply to the invitation message will not receive any future texts from the district.
