Experience the delightful favorite about a problem named Maria!

At Boynton Middle School in Ithaca NY, the halls are alive with “The Sound of Music”, on stage in the McCalmon Theatre for five performances in December 2017.

The final show written by Rodgers & Hammerstein has become one of the world's most beloved musicals, including such wonderful standards as “Do-Re-Mi”, “My Favorite Things”, and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”. Set in Austria in 1938, this musical tells the story of a high-spirited postulant who is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. She introduces music into the lives of the children, falling in love with them along the way. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain. Will their harmonious lives be torn apart when their beautiful homeland is invaded by the Nazis? The many memorable characters in this touching musical are sure to delight and inspire.

Boynton’s performing arts team brings this time honored classic production to the stage with direction by Robert Winans, musical direction by Nathan Parker, choreography by Gina Amici, costumes by Liz Woods, sets by Michael Peters and Gwen Daniels, & technical direction by Erik Frank. Starring Clare Weislogel as Maria Rainer, Elliott Nelson as Captain Georg von Trapp, Anna Bjerken as The Mother Abbess, and Gigi Weislogel as Liesl, this show is sure to be one of your favorite things this December!

Evening performances take place Thursday, December 14, Friday, December 15, and Saturday, December 16, at 7:30 p.m.; matinees on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, general seating, with purchase available at the door.
