Student-Athlete Graduation Coach/NCAA Liaison
Rich Bernstein is entering his 4th year as Graduation Coach for Ithaca Athletics, as well as NCAA Compliance Officer for Ithaca HS, after 30+ years as a School Counselor. His role is to help ensure academic success for our student-athletes by collaborating with students, parents, Director of Athletic and Wellness, teachers, and coaches, using Board policy as a guideline.
All student-athletes are monitored every 5 weeks. Student-athletes are proactively identified with having academic issues, and are monitored weekly. Student-athletes may not practice or play until grades are acceptable, but remain on the team. Interventions such as an after school athlete's study hall, tutoring and in school AIS labs are academic supports utilized.
Any possible Division 1 or 2 athletes should check with Mr. Bernstein to make sure scheduled classes are NCAA approved and are registered with NCAA. He works closely with School Counselors to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
Mr. Bernstein can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 607-351-6547. He works on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday in room J37.
