Caroline Elementary Hosts 3rd Annual School-Wide Celebration of Learning
On Friday June 9th 2017, Caroline Elementary School will hold its annual, daylong “Celebration of Learning.” The event will be located in classrooms, on the nature trail, and throughout the school’s, unique, outdoor space. Awe-inspiring student work will be shared during two
sessions: from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 12:00-1:00 p.m. The Celebration will include a school-wide picnic from 10:30 a.m.- Noon, between the two sessions. IPEI will host the Closing Ceremony, highlighting staff for successful grants throughout the year.
The “Celebration of Learning” will be an integrated, school-wide opportunity for PreK-5 students to showcase various projects that result from their learning about a particular science or engineering topic. The third grade, for example, will feature a case study of a local bird, including its habitat, adaptations, and life cycle.
Each grade's case study places a student’s learning at the center by reflecting his/her learning process, challenges encountered, and successes. This forum is an opportunity for students to consolidate their knowledge, hone important communication skills, and take pride in their work by preparing and executing culminating products (e.g. plays, models). Additionally, case study work will support a culture of student learning which builds students' persistence, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, and self-direction.
The “Celebration of Learning” is both a culminating event and an opportunity for students to share high-quality work with an authentic audience consisting of peers, parents, and the Caroline Community. All are welcome to attend.
Caroline is most grateful to IPEI for their continued support. Caroline’s industrious teachers who design and implement new and inspirational curricula. Dr. Brown and the central office team for supporting the work with professional development, a mission and vision that welcomes innovation and maintenance of our trail and outdoor learning spaces.
